Improving infrastructure, distributing city pay raises equally and making Salisbury a vibrant community are all top priorities in William Peoples’ run for the Salisbury City Council.

Peoples, 60, is retired. He most recently worked in shipping and receiving for Reynolds Metals Co. He’s been a community activist for years and is making his third run for Salisbury City Council.

If successful in his bid, Peoples has a list of priorities that include infrastructure improvements, distributing pay raises equally among city staff and making Salisbury a vibrant community through economic development and education.

“I am running because I want to make a difference,” Peoples said. “And the difference I mean is being an advocate and seeing the things that the council doesn’t see or talk about. My concern is the overall health of the city.”

Peoples currently serves as the vice chairman of Rowan County’s Social Services Board. He has also served six years on Salisbury’s Board of Adjustment and six years on the Human Relations Council. He is a past president of the Salisbury-Rowan NAACP and the current first vice president. Peoples attends First Calvary Baptist Church in Salisbury, where he is chairman of the church’s board of trustees.

He graduated from Salisbury High School in 1973, and received a degree from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in welding technology.

Peoples is one of 15 children. He has one son.
