Livingstone’s men’s basketball team put five players in double figures and beat Claflin 73-65 on Monday night in Trent Gym.
The Blue Bears (7-1) have won four straight.
Jody Hill scored 16 points to lead Livingstone. Tyler Johnson scored 13, Mark Thomas had 12, and Eladio Espinoza added 11. Omar Ford-Bey scored 10 off the bench.
Espinoza was 3-for-3 on 3-pointers and had six rebounds. Thomas had four assists. Johnson had four steals.
David Glover scored 12 points and had five assists to spark Claflin (2-6).

Salisbury’s wrestlers improved to 3-2 with a 54-18 win against Albemarle and a 60-12 romp against North Stanly.
Anthony Rivenbark, Raylon Coleman, Willie Clark, Donovan Perez and Marquise Peele had pins against the Bulldogs.
Chris Vera, Kendarius Rankin, Holden Hughley and Parker McKeithan had pins against the Comets.

Sacred Heart hoops
Sacred Heart’s varsity girls won 40-7 against St. John’s of Winston-Salem.
Annie Habeeb scored nine points for the Dolphins. Julia Honeycutt scored eight, Payton Russell had seven, and Sara Nguyen added six.
Dakota Insley, Anne Marie Metz and Leah Wyrick also contributed points to the victory.
• Sacred Heart’s jayvee boys basketball team won 29-23 against St. John’s.
Jack Fisher had season highs with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Zach Robinette added seven points, while Josh Faulkner had five assists.
Bill Fisher and Eric Turnbull turned in strong defense efforts.

East Rowan camps
East Rowan baseball’s skills camps are coming up in January.
The hitting camp costs $30 and will be held on Jan. 12 from 1-4 p.m.
The fielding and catching camp costs $20 and will be held on Jan. 19 from 1-3 p.m.
The pitching camp costs $20 and will be held on Jan. 26 from 1-3 p.m.
Players can attend all three camps for $65.
Camps are at Staton Field, weather permitting. They’ll be moved to the East or Erwin gym in case of bad weather.

College baseball
Trey Holmes (East Rowan) will receive a degree in health promotion on Saturday in Appalachian State’s winter commencement ceremonies.
Holmes, who started two years as Appalachian State’s first baseman, ranks high in Rowan County American Legion history.
Holmes is the program record holder for doubles (56). He’s second in RBIs (168), third in runs (192) and homers (25) and sixth in hits (207).
Holmes set a single-season record for hits with 96 in 2009 when Rowan reached the Legion World Series.

College women’s hoops
Tusculum’s Kendal Baxter leads the nation with 4.25 3-pointers per contest. Baxter has made 34 in eight games.
•Katelynne Poole (East Rowan) scored seven points for Brevard in a 69-46 loss to Presbyterian.
• Fayetteville State’s Daquondra Cuthbertson (North Rowan) had two points and three rebounds in a 68-35 win against Washington Adventist.

College swimming
Catawba freshman Sebastian Holmberg qualified for the NCAA Division II Nationals with a school and meet reord in the 100 backstroke at the Shark Invitational held in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Holmberg won the event in 48.37. He also won the 100 butterfly in a school and meet record.

Hurley YMCA
The J.F. Hurley YMCA is registering for boys basketball for ages 7-14 until Jan. 6.
The league is for instruction and fun and is for all skill levels.
The YMCA also will be holding a clinic for boys and girls ages 5-6.
Coaches are always needed.
