The Catawba College Community Music Program hosted piano and choral performance events for students enrolled in the program.
Celebrating 25 years, Catawba Community Music was designed to provide quality musical experiences including private lessons, music classes, ensembles and performance opportunities to help students of all ages and abilities in Salisbury and the surrounding areas develop lifelong musical foundations and skills.
A piano recital was held Sunday, Dec. 13, in the Omwake Dearborne Chapel at Catawba College. Students represented the piano studios of Community Music piano faculty members including Erin Harper and Emily Schuttenberg.Students participating in the program included Amanda Hassard, Grace Chamberlain, Joe Steinman, Elly Burks, Caroline Price, Logan Stach, Maggie Alexander, Jack Fisher, Julian Malnar, Nathan Malnar, Sarah Roakes, Roarke Burton, Patrick Smith, Raegan Owen, Jeremy Geter, Victoria Jones, Berkley Loeblein, Dhasan Boler, Caroline Chilton, Hannah Smith, Kevin Sullivan, Katherine Rusher, Jonathan Barbee, Callie Alexander, Nellie Brown, Daniel Engwall, Arnold Yu and Daniel Yu.The Catawba Children’s Chorale, directed by Randi Skaggs, and the Catawba Youth Chorale, directed by Dean Orbison, presented a joint choral concert on Sunday, Dec. 13 in the Peeler Crystal Lounge at Catawba College. This performance, accompanied by Dr. Julie Chamberlain, marked the first concert appearance of the new Youth Chorale ensemble and the first collaborative performance of the Community Music choral ensembles.
Repertoire included various Christmas selections and other inclusive repertoire including “In This Very Room,” “The Sound of Pipe and Drum,” “Hush! Somebody’s Callin’ My Name,” “Inscription of Hope,” “Here I Am, Lord,” “Carol of the Bells,” “Once Upon a December,” “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch” and Various Themes on “Fa-La-La.”
Audience members also were treated to a guest appearance by the Grinch.
Children’s Chorale members included Colbie Beck, Anna Chamberlain, Grace Chamberlain, Makayla Dillon, Marissa Goho, Kelsey A. Greaves, Rachelle Grizzard,Gabriel Groppi, Janet Hammond, Amanda Hassard, Anna Hester, Morgan Hester, Kendra Key, Lauren Montgomery, Katherine Paul, Miriam Roy, Macy Skaggs, Tucker Skaggs and Sydney Taylor. Members of the Youth Chorale included Arianna Auman, Caroline Beaver, Anna Chamberlain, Adam Broyles, Dani Burris, Chelsea Davis, Neil Emmett, Hannah Freeze, Lauren Gaskill, McKamie Harrison, Michael Jones, Joshua Kongmany, William McKinzie, Sammy Petre, Scarlett Simmington, Will Thrailkill and Ginny Weant.Miss Merry Christmas
Natalie Burns, a senior at West Rowan High School was crowned Miss Merry Christmas during the halftime of the Varsity Boys basketball game on Wednesday Dec. 16.
She was escorted by Adam Lomax of Mt. Ulla.
She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rodney D. Burns of Salisbury and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry L. Burns, also of Salisbury, and Mr. and Mrs. W. Gerald Osborne of Cleveland.
