KANNAPOLIS ó The bowl of kibble under the water cooler hints that not everyone at Castle & Cooke walks on two legs.
Dogs occasionally roam the office of the N.C. Research Campus developer, greeting employees and visitors with a happy wag.
Castle & Cooke President Lynne Scott Safrit’s beloved Belle and Murphy have accompanied her to work on well-behaved days. Now they share their kibble with a pup named Boss Dog.
Boss Dog visits Castle & Cooke with Victoria Christian, chief operating officer for Duke Translational Research Institute and the MURDOCK Study. Christian travels to Kannapolis several times a month.
She had the pick of the litter this fall when David H. Murdock’s dogs, Tiny and Angel, had nine puppies at Pity Sake Lodge.
“Tiny” is somewhat of a misnomer, considering that Great Pyrenees can weigh up to 120 pounds.
Murdock kept several puppies to help out at the lodge, his residence and a working farm near Kannapolis. The rest went to friends.
Bossy, as Christian calls her furry soulmate, joins five other dogs on her acreage in Hillsborough.
