RALEIGH (AP) ó A proposed smoking ban for all state vehicles is going under the microscope.
A House judiciary committee is scheduled to discuss a measure Tuesday that would ban smoking in all state owned or leased vehicles. Members considered the bill last week but ran out of time before they could take a vote.
House Minority Leader Paul Stam said the plan is designed to stop people from smoking, not to protect workers from second-hand smoke as proponents claim. The Wake County Republican wants to change the bill to allow smoking in older vehicles that are used by only one state employee.
Any changes to the proposal would send the plan back to the Senate.
