SALISBURY — A Woodleaf man has been charged with four counts of taking indecent liberties with a child after the victim’s family reported the abuse to deputies.

Deputies received a report of potential sexual abuse against a child that occurred at a home near Woodleaf on March 29, said Captain Mark McDaniel, public information officer for the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies learned that the victim of the abuse told their relatives that they had been sexually abused while sleeping at 45-year-old Adrian Berrera’s home, said McDaniel. The relatives then immediately relayed that information in a report to the sheriff’s office and the juvenile was evaluated, according to the report.

Deputies then initiated an investigation, which led them to charge Berrera with four counts of taking indecent liberties with a child, said McDaniel.

Berrera was arrested on Tuesday and placed in the Rowan County Detention Center. He was issued a $30,000 bond by Magistrate Potts.
