Anonymous donation increases scholarship opportunity for West Rowan grads

CLEVELAND — Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous supporter committed to expanding opportunities to Rowan County students interested in studying at N..C State University, $100,000 has been pledged to grow the N.C. State University Science and Agriculture Scholarship Endowment.

According to a press release from reviewed and approved by the North Carolina State University Communications Department, the scholarship endowment was created in 2012 with a preference for supporting West Rowan High School students attending N.C. State to study agriculture, engineering, life sciences or physical science.

To date, it has helped 17 West Rowan students pursue their education at N.C. State. With the new commitment, the annual scholarship is projected to be valued at $4,000 in the next academic year and will be renewable for up to four years. The current value of the scholarship endowment is more than $350,000, and with this new pledge, the amount of funds available for scholarships will increase in future years.
