College men’s track and field: Ritchie wins event in USA South Championships

CONCORD — East Rowan graduate Cameron Ritchie won the 400 meter hurdles and helped Pfeiffer’s men’s track and field team place second in the USA South Championships held at Robinson High on Friday.

Pfeiffer, coached by Bob Marchinko, finished second behind Southern Virginia.

Ritchie ran 57.58 in the 400 hurdles final.

In the 110 hurdles, North Rowan grad Quintin Wilson and Ritchie finished second and third, respectively. Wilson ran 16.38, while Ritchie was timed in 16:50.

Wilson added a fifth-place finish in the 400 hurdles.

AJ Huffman (Salisbury) was injured running the 400 meters, so Ritchie replaced him on the 4×400 relay team that won in 3:24.91.

Trent Rivers (South Rowan) scored with a sixth-place finish in the 1500 in 4:21.09.
