College baseball: Surry CC wins Region 10 regular season

DOBSON — Former West Rowan players Lucas Graham, Matt Connolly and Elijah Palmer are in the starting lineup for the Surry Community College Knights, the Region 10 regular-season champions.

A.L. Brown graduate Jalan Chambers is a two-way standout for Surry. Former Carson hurler Mikey Beasley (5-1) struggled in his outing over the weekend, but he’s been a reliable starter on the mound for Surry.

Surry (36-8, 16-5) finished the regular season with an 11-8, 5-0, 7-3 sweep of Virginia Peninsula Community College over the weekend.

In the 11-8 win, Surry had to come back from a 5-0 deficit. Graham, the second baseman, had two hits and two RBIs. Chambers had two hits and scored three runs.

Chambers took charge on the mound in the 5-0 win. He scattered seven hits and struck out seven.

Chambers drove in two runs. Palmer had two hits.

In the 7-3 win, Palmer had three hits and Chambers scored twice.

Graham is batting .331 with 42 runs scored and 24 RBIs.

Chambers has five homers, 41 RBIs, 48 runs and a .345 batting average. He’s 8-1 on the mound.

Palmer, the center fielder, is batting .289 with 19 runs and 12 RBIs.

Connolly, the catcher, is being pitched around quite a bit after his incredible start, but he’s batting .380 with six homers and 43 RBIs.

Surry will be the top seed for the conference tournament that will be held in Martinsville, Va. The tournament starts on Friday.

Graham and Palmer plan to play for Rowan County American Legion this summer.
