High school girls soccer: Hornets cruise to win vs. North

SPENCER — Salisbury won 9-0 in Monday’s Central Carolina Conference match at North Rowan.

The Hornets (11-4-3, 8-3-1)  finished their CCC season.

Addie Griffith scored three goals, including a header into the side netting off a cross from Liz Escobar.

“Our nicest goal of the season,” Salisbury coach Matt Parrish said.

Escobar scored two goals.

Tiffany Huerta, a senior in her second year with the program, scored her first career goal for the Hornets.

Freshman Briana Rivas scored her first career goal.

Leslie Silva scored her first goal of the season.

Freshman Taylor Brown started the match in goal and scored her first career goal.

Assists were credited to Cora Wymbs (2), Maddie Crabb, Stephany Quintero and Escobar.

Brown, Brianna Figueroa  and Lola Koontz combined for the shutout in goal. It was the goalkeeping debut for Koontz, who recorded one save.

Next up for the Hornets is the regular-season finale at Mount Pleasant at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Hornets are 18th in the 2A West RPI rankings and will be in the state playoffs.
