High school baseball roundup: Carson, South, East, Salisbury win; tough loss for Falcons

CONCORD — Carson buried Concord with a nine-run fourth inning and battered the Spiders 18-4 on Friday.

Daxton Savage, Nick Ayash, Cam Williamson and Caden Lewis had huge games for the Cougars (13-8, 10-4), who are in second place in the South Piedmont Conference.

Savage was 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Ayash was 3-for-3 and scored three runs. Lewis was 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Cam Williamson was 3-for-4 and scored three times.

Carson had 18 hits to overwhelm the Spiders (3-17, 2-12). Javen Parks, Will Bradshaw and Kendal Sifford had two RBIs each. Lewis, Parks and Savage had doubles.

Maverick Walters was credited with the win.

CONCORD — South Rowan had one of its better games of the season, winning 6-1 at Northwest Cabarrus.

Aaron Jones was terrific on the mound in the SPC contest. He went the distance, striking out four, while allowing two hits and two walks.

Conner Coy led South’s offense with three hits and two RBIs.

Marshal Faw had a triple and drove in a run. Brett Morris had a run-scoring hit.

Northwest ace Dalton Hazlett struck out six for the Trojans (9-13, 7-8) and matched zeroes with Jones in the early innings, but South (10-11, 6-8) put together a five-run fifth to take charge.

GRANITE QUARRY — East Rowan scored four runs in the first inning to take charge and handled Central Cabarrus 8-1 in Friday’s SPC game.

East had nine hits against the Vikings (4-14, 1-13), with Harrison Ailshie and Logan Dyer getting two each.

Cobb Hightower’s double was East’s only extra-base hit, and he scored two runs.

East was sharp on the mound by committee, with Dyer, Nate Hayworth and Hightower combining for 10 strikeouts and a three-hitter. Dyer pitched four innings and was credited with the win.

East hasn’t lost a home game and hasn’t lost anywhere since March 19.

The Mustangs (21-1, 14-1) are No. 1 in the 3A West RPI rankings. East finishes SPC play at Carson on Tuesday.

HUNTERSVILLE — Lake Norman Charter finished a season sweep of West Rowan, beating the Falcons 4-2 in Friday’s SPC game.

Lake Norman Charter also beat the Falcons 4-2 on opening night,

Colin Weathers pitched a three-hitter for the Knights (13-6, 9-5) and struck out six Falcons (16-5, 9-5).

Brant Graham and Drew Burton pitched for the Falcons, with Graham taking the loss.

Brice Knox led the Falcons’ offense. He had two hits. Knox and Graham had the RBIs.

SALISBURY — Salisbury evened its record at 10-10 by mauling North Hills Christian 12-2 on Friday.

Mike Geter was the winning pitcher in the non-conference game. He struck out seven. Jackson Sparger and Ben Young provided relief help in the five-inning game.

Evan Koontz had two doubles  and drove in five runs to lead the Hornets’ offense,

Aiden Mowery and Landon Tucker had two hits each. Hank Webb, who doubled, and Geter, who had two sac flies, had two RBIs apiece.

Salisbury is 37th in the 2A West RPI rankings.
