SALISBURY — Two people are dead after two shootings in Salisbury over the weekend.

One of the shootings occurred at the Jersey City Park, located at 709 W. Kerr St. The other occurred at the American Legion Building, referred to as the hut, located at 1400 Old Wilkesboro Road.

A spokesperson for the Salisbury Police Department confirmed that one person was killed in each of the separate shootings.

On Saturday at approximately 9 p.m., police received notice that an individual had been taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center with a gunshot wound, according to a release from the department.

The release said that 26-year-old Shaleek Jaqwon Williams was wounded in the Jersey City Park shooting before being transported to the hospital, where he died from a gunshot wound. Williams was at the park for a memorial service.

Officers were dispatched to the American Legion Building a few hours later at approximately 2 a.m. on Sunday. There, they located a female identified by the release as 21-year-old Alyssia Nicole Salter, who had suffered a gunshot wound. Salter was transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, where she died from her wounds.

No arrests have been made in connection to the shootings, but the release stated that the incident is under an active investigation and the Salisbury Police Department is working with state and federal agencies to resolve the investigation.

The department is also working with community partners to develop ideas on how to prevent “this kind of senseless violence,” according to the release.
