High school softball roundup: Clarke belts grand slam; Mustangs stay undefeated in SPC

MOUNT ULLA — Emma Clarke hit a grand slam to highlight West Rowan’s easy 20-5 win against Concord on Friday.

West (11-6, 7-3) scored nine runs in the first inning.

Clarke was 2-for-2 with three runs and five RBIs in the four-inning South Piedmont Conference game.

Clarke has been pitched around often this season, but is batting .500 with eight homers and 27 RBIs.

Reese Poole went 3-for-4 for the Falcons. Kayla Burns was 2-for-2 with four RBIs.

Regan Eggers and Kaylee Furr had two RBIs each.

Peyton Biggers and Peyton Aagard had two RBIs for the Spiders (4-12, 1-9).

LANDIS — East Rowan won 10-2 at South Rowan on Friday to stay undefeated in the South Piedmont Conference.

Camryn Perkins was the winning pitcher.

The Mustangs (13-2, 13-0) g0t runs from seven different players and RBIs from six.

Kori Miller had a homer and a double. Maddie Roberts also had a homer and a double.

Chloe Shank, Jordan Dry and Kady Collins also had doubles for the Mustangs.

Lexie Ritchie, Danica Krieg, Kynlee Dextraze and Meghan Eagle had hits for South (7-8-1, 6-6), with Ritchie and Krieg producing the RBIs.

CHINA GROVE — Carson lost a wild 12-11 game with Lake Norman Charter on Friday.

Carson led 10-4, but the Knights tied the SPC game with a six-run fifth.

Lake Norman Charter (4-9, 3-8) scored two runs in the top of the seventh, and then held Carson to one run.

Evie White hit a home run for Carson and scored three runs.

Madison Clark, White and McKenzie Powers had doubles for the Cougars (3-13, 2-9). Powers and White drove in three runs each.

Caylee Snow struck out five in five innings. Clark relieved Snow in the sixth.

Morgan Gadd had three hits for Lake Norman Charter.

Carson plays at South Rowan on Tuesday and is home against West Rowan on Wednesday.

Haylee Ellis struck out 12 batters as the Northwest Cabarrus Trojans edged Robinson 3-2 on Friday in SPC action.

CONCORD — Cox Mill scored six runs in the second inning and beat A.L. Brown 12-2 in Friday’s Greater Metro Conference game.

Ashleigh Drake hit a home run for the Chargers.

Mooresville (14-0) stayed undefeated with a 7-3 non-conference win against Ardrey Kell on Friday.
