Bookpalooza used book sale returning to West End Plaza Event Center April 12

SALISBURY — It’s time to buy books. Rowan Public Library, in conjunction with Friends of Rowan Public Library, is hosting Bookpalooza, a four-day-long book sale event that begins with a preview sale for Friends of RPL members on Friday, April 12. The sale is open to the public from Saturday, April 13, through Monday, April 15. Bookpalooza will be held in the West End Plaza Event Center (formerly a JC Penney storefront), located at 1935 Jake Alexander Blvd. W, Salisbury.

The sale selection includes adult, young adult and children’s fiction, and a wide variety of nonfiction titles. The sale also includes DVDs and audiobooks. 

Friends of RPL membership is required to attend the preview sale on Friday, April 12. Memberships can be purchased at the door, and an individual membership is $10 a year. The preview sale opens to Friends of RPL members at 6 p.m., immediately following the group’s annual meeting, which begins at 5:30 p.m. The preview sale ends at 8 p.m.

Beginning Saturday, April 13, Bookpalooza is open to the general public. Everyone is invited to shop on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, April 14, from 2 to 5 p.m.; and on Monday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Standard pricing is $2 for hardback books, $1 for softcover books, 50 cents for pocket paperback books, $1 for hardback children’s books, 50 cents for children’s softcover books, and $1 for DVDs and CDs. 

Bookpalooza also includes a variety of special discounts so that everyone can enjoy this book-selling party. Please note, however, that discounts cannot be stacked:

  • Saturday and Sunday: The “Wheel of Discounts” will spin every two hours and reveal a new special offer for all shoppers. 
  • Saturday and Sunday: All educators and students receive 50 percent off their total purchase. Includes preschools; primary or secondary public, private, or homeschools; and higher education institutions. 
  • Saturday and Sunday: Individuals ages 18 and under receive one free item (must be present to claim). 
  • Sunday: Seniors (ages 55+), Rowan County employees, and veterans receive 50 percent off their total purchases.
  • Monday: Super Sale Day. Entry to the sale is a flat-rate fee of $5 for individuals or $10 for families of three or more; admission is good all day. 

Customers are asked to bring their own shopping bags or boxes to the sale.

Cash, Apple Pay, AmEx, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa payments are all accepted. 

Donations of books, CDs, DVDs, or audiobooks will also be accepted during Bookpalooza hours. Signs will be posted outside the WEP Event Center, near the Bookpalooza entrance, directing donations to the former JC Penney loading dock. 

Proceeds from  Bookpalooza directly benefit Rowan Public Library and are used to help fund a variety of initiatives, including RPL’s 2024 Adventure Begins at Your Library Summer Reading initiative, which offers programs and reading incentives for all ages.
