CHINA GROVE — Daxton Savage pitched a two-hitter to lead Carson’s baseball team to a 5-1 South Piedmont Conference against South Rowan on Monday.

Savage struck out 10 and walked one.

Keegan Bargers scored three runs to key Carson’s offense.

Jayven Parks and TJ Harris had RBIs. Harris’ double was the only extra-base hit for Carson (9-7, 7-4).

Drew Pegram and Drew Blackwell had the hits for the Raiders (8-8, 4-6). Pegram drove in Conner Coy with South’s only run in the first inning.

 

HS SOFTBALL

TROUTMAN — Emma Clarke hit a three-run homer and Arabelle Shulenberger pitched a complete game as West Rowan (10-5) clobbered South Iredell 10-1 in non-conference action on Monday.

Clarke scored three runs and drove in four.

Ella Doby had three hits and scored two runs. Reese Poole had two hits and drove in two. Taylor Keller and EA Nance had two hits. Poole, Nance and Lacey Houghton had doubles.

Shulenbeger struck out six, walked one and limited the Vikings (3-9) to five hits.

KANNAPOLIS — Lake Norman took a doubleheader from A.L. Brown (4-9, 2-5) on Monday, winning both Greater Metro Conference games by 9-6 scores.

Mady Baker had two hits, including a triple in the first game.

In the second game, Emmy David had two hits and three RBIs. Also getting two hits were Isabella Butler, Karma Little and Myla McNeely. McNeely and Marynda Blackwelder had triples.

 

HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER

SALISBURY — Maddie Crabb powered Salisbury’s girls soccer team to another win on Monday.

Crabb scored both goals in a 2-0 non-conference victory against West Rowan. Liz Escobar and Stella Koontz had the assists.

Salisbury got excellent play from Tiffany Huerta, Emma Ott, Meredith Williams, Jamilet Figueroa and Lola Koontz.

Taylor Brown recorded the clean sheet for the home team.

“It was a tricky match for us,” Salisbury coach Matt Parrish said. “We had a very short bench due to absences, transfers and injuries. Girls were asked to step up and play big minutes — several players logged more minutes than any match thus far. It has been very difficult to maintain any sort of continuity, on the field or in practice, due to the breaks in school and interruptions to the schedule. We build and reach a new pinnacle … then have to build right back to it once the schedule commences. Now we get a couple of complete weeks to get the girls to buy back in. We have a chance to exceed our results and record from last season, we just need to get and stay on the same page.”

The Hornets played for the first time in 13 days.

West Rowan is 4-5.

Next up for the Hornets (5-2-1) is a return to CCC play vs. North Rowan on Wednesday. Game time is 6 p.m.

North Rowan (0-10, 0-4) lost 5-2 to Lexington on Monday.

Carson  (0-9-1) is still looking for its win but tied Mount Pleasant 1-1 on Monday. The Tigers are 6-4-1.
