High school softball: Dextraze slugs grand slam for South; tough loss for Falcons; Hornets are shut out

CONCORD — Lenoir-Rhyne commit Kynlee Dextraze is having a huge junior season and walloped a grand slam in South Rowan’s 11-1 win at Concord on Tuesday.

Her grand slam came in the fourth inning and helped break open a competitive game.

Dextraze had three hits and drove in seven runs for the Raiders (7-7-1, 6-5).

Campbell Withers had two hits, including a homer.

Leisha Carter and Lexie Ritchie had two hits each.

Eva Shue did the pitching in the six-inning game and struck out eight, while allowing three hits.

Anamaria Shuman had a triple for the Spiders (4-10, 1-8).

CONCORD — Central Cabarrus scored with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and beat West Rowan 5-4 in South Piedmont Conference softball on Tuesday.

The victory gave the Vikings (12-3, 10-1) a split of the season series. The Vikings are in second place in the SPC. East Rowan is still undefeated in the league and takes on the Vikings for the first time on Wednesday at Central.

West (10-6, 6-3) to0k a 4-1 lead to the fifth inning, but the Vikings scored three in the fifth to tie it and finally prevailed in extra innings.

Four errors hurt the Falcons, who got good pitching from Arabelle Shulenberger. She struck out nine and walked two.

Central successfully pitched around Emma Clarke, walking her four times. She only scored once.

EA Nance homered and drove in two for the Falcons. Shulenberger had two hits.

Central pitcher Taryn Jenkins stuck out 14 and walked 10. Central out-hit the Falcons 12-4.

Peyton Smith homered and drove in four for the Vikings.

SALISBURY — Salisbury got only three hits in a 10-0 Central Carolina Conference loss to West Davidson on Tuesday.

Ashley had a single and a double for the Hornets (5-7, 5-3). Allie Peeler had the other hit.

Hannah Rollins struck out 17 for West Davidson (8-5, 6-0), while walking only one.
