High school baseball: Hornets get CCC win

SALISBURY — Salisbury’s baseball team scored six runs in the third inning and beat South Davidson 8-4 in a Central Carolina Conference game played on Monday.

Evan Koontz went 4-for-4 for the Hornets. Landon Tucker had two hits.

Hank Webb pitched six innings, striking out six and allowing one earned run. Tucker pitched the seventh to finish off the Wildcats (3-6, 3-1).

It was 2-all when the Hornets (2-5, 2-3) batted in the bottom of third. Koontz tripled to start the big inning. Mike Geter’s single scored Koontz with the tie-breaking run. RBI hits by Webb and Cole Price kept things rolling.

Price and Tucker scored with some aggressive base-running for 7-2. Koontz got his second hit of the inning to make it 8-2.

The teams were scheduled to play again on Tuesday in Denton.
