LANDIS — Carmen Thomas had the game-winning hit, driving in two in the bottom of the seventh, as South Rowan rallied to beat Lake Norman Charter 6-5 on Thursday.

Thomas was 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the South Piedmont Conference contest.

Lexie Ritchie returned from a hip flexor injury and had two hits. Danica Krieg scored two runs.

Campbell Withers, Kynlee Dextraze and Avery Fisher had RBIs.

“We got the word around noon that we were going to play,” South coach Dean Mullinax said. “The girls overcame some early adversity, bent but never broke. Lake Norman Charter (2-6, 2-5) is a good team, much improved from last year. Both teams made mistakes and mistakes can beat you, but we hung in there.”

South (4-5-1, 4-3) is finally getting healthy. Meghan Eagle is expected to return to the team on Monday. She’s been out all season after an injury on the first day of official practice.

Eleni Miller had a huge game at the plate, 4-for-4, with two doubles and six RBIs for the Mustangs (7-1, 7-0). Madi Tigert went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple. Ava Alderman had a double. Seven players had hits.

Kirsten Hedrick struck out six Hornets (3-4, 3-2) in the Central Carolina Conference game.

In the circle, Peeler struck out five.

MOUNT ULLA —  Davie pitcher Riley Potts had a no-hitter until the sixth inning, but West Rowan pulled out a 3-2 non-conference victory on Thursday.

Emma Clarke’s opposite-field homer in the sixth, her fourth of the season, was West’s first hit and cut Davie’s lead to 2-1.

EA Nance homered in the seventh to tie the game.

Then West (4-3) won it on a walk to Riley Haggas, a good bunt by Lucy Shelton and a clutch single by freshman Kayla Burns.

Arabelle Shulenberger was the winning pitcher. She struck out seven War Eagles (6-5), walked two and allowed five hits and one earned run.
