SALISBURY — A Salisbury woman was arrested on Saturday after police said she shot her mother in the back of the head.

Josie Jessica Jimenez, 22, was arrested and charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Officers responded to the 200 block of East 14th Street in reference to a shooting and found a woman on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, a spokesperson for the Salisbury Police Department said. That woman was transported to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police believed that Jimenez had made her way inside the family’s residence and so called for support. Officers were able to see an unknown person walking around the property with thermal imaging. The officers could not actually see onto the property due to a large fence, the spokesperson said.

Law enforcement reportedly utilized the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office’s Bearcat, an armored vehicle, to breach the fence. They then found that another man had been on the property and not come out when police ordered occupants to leave the building, the spokesperson said.

Police also had officers stationed throughout the area. Jimenez was arrested by officers near the intersection of East 12th and Richard street, a short distance away from where the shooting occurred, according to police reports.

At some point, the victim told investigators that she was at the residence when she was shot by Jimenez in the head, according to the spokesperson.

Jimenez was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center and is being held without bond.
