Area Sports: North Middle sweeps

North Rowan swept the middle school basketball tournament championship games played on Wednesday at South Rowan High.

In the girls game, North rolled against West Rowan, 47-24.

Demya Phifer led the Mavericks (16-1) with 19 points. Bailee Goodlett and Brittany Ellis scored 11 each.  Dasia Elder scored five, whiel Bloom Goodlett had four.

North Rowan topped Mooresville, 60-50, in the boys championship game.

Sacred Heart

Sacred Heart Middle School’s varsity boys basketball team defeated St. Pius at the Renegar Tournament, 32-22.

Nick Loeblein scored  16 points. Soyer Cornelison scored six, and Kaiden Dulkoski had five.

Dulkoski led with eight rebounds.

The Dolphins defeated North Hills, 45-35, with Loeblein’s 24 points, five rebounds, and four steals.  Dulkoski had 11 points.

The varsity boys lost to Immaculate Heart of Mary, 66-21, despite Loeblein’s 26 points.  James Holland and Cornelison led the defensive effort.

Against Our Lady of Mercy, Sacred Heart’s boys fell, 52-38.

  Loeblein had 12 points, Jonah Sithong had nine, and Dulkoski  Cornelison scored eight each. Braulio Mercado had eight rebounds.

Sacred Heart Varsity Girls defeated Iredell Charter Academy by 40-18.  Angie Landaverde had 19 points and Lauren Childress 10.  Against, the Lady Dolphins defeated Statesville Montessori 40-18.  Ella Cooler had 10 points and Jayda Barber had 8.   The Lady Dolphins were defeated by Immaculate Heart of Mary 11-44. Landaverde had 6 points and Jasmine Garcia had 5.   Sacred Heart fell to Our Lady of Mercy 20-31.  Landaverde had 8, Childress 7, and Emma Bloom 4.
