Area Sports: Salisbury, Carson girls qualify for state tennis

Salisbury’s Lillie Rusher took second place in singles the 2A Midwest Regional tennis tournament hosted by Salisbury.
Salisbury’s doubles team of Meredith Burton/Margaret Thurman placed third in the regional and will join Rusher in the individual state tournament.
The 2A state championships are Oct. 25-26 in Cary.

Carson’s doubles team of Maci Cooper/Jadyn Kirkpatrick finished fourth in the 3A Midwest Regional held in Concord and will head to the state individual tournament.
The 3A state championships are Oct. 25-26 in Burlington.

Salisbury (13-0) and Carson (16-0) will be back in action in the second round of the dual team state playoffs on Tuesday.
Salisbury hosts West Wilkes (13-2) in a 2A matchup. West Wilkes beat West Stokes 8-1 in the first round.
Carson hosts South Piedmont Conference runner-up Concord (9-5) in a 2A matchup. Concord beat Southwest Guilford 6-0 in the first round.
HS volleyball
The quarterfinals of the Central Carolina Conference Tournament will be held on Monday.
Top-seeded South Rowan will host No. 8 seed North Davidson at 5 p.m.
Semifinals will be played at South on Tuesday. South would play in the second semifinal of the day at 7 p.m.
The championship match is set for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

South Iredell is hosting the entire North Piedmont Conference Tournament.
First-round matches (3 vs. 6 and 4 vs. 5) are on Monday. The top two seeds, West Rowan and South Iredell have byes.
On Monday at 4:30 p.m., sixth-seeded East Rowan plays No. 3 North Iredell. At 6:30 p.m., No. 4 Carson plays No. 5 Statesville.
Semifinals are on Tuesday. West Rowan will play Carson or Statesville in the 6:30 p.m. semifinal. South Iredell will play the East Rowan-North Iredell winner in a 4:30 p.m. semifinal.
The championship match is set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Regional golf will be held on Monday, with the 3A Central Regional at Greensboro National and the 1A/2A Central Regional at Sapona.
HS cross country
The Central Carolina Conference Championships will be held at Salisbury Community Park on Tuesday.
