Salisbury police officer charged with domestic violence assault

SALISBURY — Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Friday arrested a Salisbury Police Department officer on domestic violence charges.

Officer Joseph N. Wilson was charged with assault on a female, domestic violence, by the Iredell Sheriff’s Office. He was released on bond and placed on administrative leave with pay, the Salisbury Police Department said.

The SPD Professional Standards Unit is conducting an inquiry into the matter.

Wilson has been employed with the department since 2011. He holds the rank of master police officer and is assigned to Patrol Team Adam, the Police Department said.

In a news release, the department said it’s fully cooperating with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.

The Salisbury Police Department said it was unable to comment further on the matter.
