Area Sports: Qualifying continues in Labor-Day 4-Ball

Labor Day Four-Ball golf qualifying continued on Saturday despite difficult weather conditions.
The 64 shot by Ken Clarke/Chris Owen on Friday still leads open qualifying.
Joey Boley/Richard Cobb shot a 64 Friday to lead Senior (55+) qualifying. In the women’s division, Kristi Laton and Alice Sylven shot 68 Saturday to pace qualifying.
Regularly scheduled Sunday tee times will go off on time, and playoffs will be conducted as needed.
HS softball
A.L. Brown junior pitcher Tali Hagler has committed to North Georgia.
HS volleyball
West Rowan won twice on Saturday, sweeping Grimsley and Mount Tabor in a tri-match hosted by Mount Tabor.
West (4-0) smacked Grimsley 25-13, 25-20 and 25-12 and rolled against Mount Tabor 25-12, 25-8 and 25-11.

Carson opened the season by sweeping Grimsley on Thursday in three close sets.

East Rowan volleyball (2-1) swept A.L. Brown on Thursday, with Leah Hinceman and Emma Collins getting eight kills each. Audrey Cox had foura ces. Mikayla Tucker and Hannah Larson had six kills each. Zoe Larson had 24 assists.
HS girls tennis
Maci Cooper, Keeley Watson, Carleigh Perry and Riley Isley won singles matches as Carson (2-0) won 6-3 against Mooresville. Perry/Lindsey Conrad and Watson/Isley won in doubles.
HS cross country
Davie’s Emerson Frantz placed second in the Providence Invitational girls race at McAlpine Park on Saturday in 19:54.
East Rowan’s Adalie Harrison was 17th in 21:50.
Davie’s girls finished fifth. Davie’s boys finished sixth with Nate Brooks (11th) leading the way in 17:30.
College basketball
The CIAA has made schedule adjustments that will have all of the league’s teams playing each other twice.
Little League softball
Little League softball will switch from 10 to 12 regions (eight U.S. four international) in 2021.
Little League baseball
The Little League World Series is being expanded by four teams to 20 in 2021 and the Williamsport complex will receive a $15 million facelift.
Mid. school football
CHINA GROVE — West Rowan Middle shut out China Grove here on Wednesday, 26-0, in the opening game for both schools.
The Bulldogs’ stifling defense completely shut down the Red Devils’ passing game, led by Tyrin Little, Jathan Roby and Landon Spicer.
Aubrie Robinson and Kamron White led the West offense. White rushed for 89 yards and three touchdowns while Robinson ran for 105 yards and one score.
West is home this Wednesday, hosting Knox at 4 p.m.

The West seventh-grade team lost last Tuesday to Brawley Middle School, 38-0. Standouts for the Bulldogs were Hunter Bean and Camden Moten.
