CHARLOTTE — Girl Scouts Hornets’ Nest Council has announced this year’s Gold Award Girl Scouts. This prestigious award represents the highest achievement in Girl Scouting and challenges girls ages 14-17 to initiate meaningful, sustainable change locally, nationally, and even globally through their own unique ‘Take Action’ projects.

This award is only available to Girl Scouts. The girls received their award at a special recognition ceremony held April 13 at Girl Scouts Hornets’ Nest Council.

This year’s Rowan County Gold Award recipient is Emma Amos. Emma’s project focused on getting more girls involved with masonry. She increased the awareness of masonry by providing a successful workshop for girls in the Rowan County community. The workshop was held at a local church where her team taught girls about masonry through a hands-on project focused on building a fire pit. She also created a step-by-step brochure on how to build a fire pit and has shared her project through social media.
