Some major changes are happening for Relay For Life of Rowan County through a series of circumstances and decisions the Event Lead Team hopes will catch people’s interest and bring them out to support the American Cancer Society while having some fun.

As team leaders began planning for 2019 events last October, they discovered the need to find a new location for the Cancer Survivors and Caregivers Dinner that is held each year. Relay For Life will celebrate survivors and their guests at Christ United Methodist Church fellowship hall, 3401 Mooresville Road, in Salisbury.

The church is willing and able to provide space and a fully equipped kitchen for this important event. On Saturday, April 27, the dinner team will host survivors and guests for a spaghetti dinner at 5 p.m.

Cancer survivors may register for the dinner, by going to the website www.relayforlife.org/rowannc and scrolling down for the Survivors section. Let the group know you plan to attend by emailing welovesurvivors@gmail.com with pertinent information. People may also call Jennifer Dellinger at 704-267-4776. Call or email as soon as possible to ensure there are enough seats and food.

Relay is moving its Friday, May 3, event to a new venue at West End Plaza Event Center, 1935 Jake Alexander Blvd W., in the old JC Penney store. Except for any cooking teams or vendors do, the Relay will be held indoors this year, relieving concerns about the weather.

The public is invited to join. There will be plenty of parking and lots of room indoors. The opening ceremony will be at 6 p.m. Activities will continue until 11 p.m. That will include ceremonies, music, food, raffle baskets and lots of games — the theme is “In It to Win It: Playing Games to Conquer Cancer!”

Relay For Life is the main fundraising arm of the American Cancer Society, which can be reached at 800-227-2345 or www.cancer.org, 24/7. To reach 2019 Relay for Life of Rowan County Lead Mary Knapp, email maryknappnc@gmail.com or call 980-234-4479.
