WINSTON-SALEM —  Salisbury’s baseball team pulled out a tight Central Carolina Conference win at Oak Grove on Friday to split the season series with the Grizzlies.

The Hornets scored the deciding run in the top of the seventh when Max Crawford’s sacrifice fly plated Vance Honeycutt. Honeycutt had doubled and moved to third on an infield out.

Salisbury (8-5, 7-3) moved into a tie for third place in the CCC with Oak Grove.

Salisbury got exceptional pitching from starter Jack Fisher and winner Bo Rusher (3-0). They combined for 12 strikeouts and no walks. Fisher pitched the first four innings, with Rusher working the final three.

Seth Polen hit a solo homer for the Grizzlies (8-5, 7-3) as they grabbed an early 2-0 lead.

Salisbury rallied in the third inning, scoring three times on three straight extra-base hits from the top of the lineup. Honeycutt tripled home a run. Then Rusher and Fisher hit back-to-back doubles.

Down 4-3 in the sixth, Salisbury tied the game on a clutch hit by Sam Combs.

That set the stage for scoring the go-ahead run in the seventh.

Salisbury is back in action this afternoon with a non-conference game at North Rowan.
