Women’s basketball: Livingstone women romp on road

RALEIGH — Livingstone’s women’s basketball team had been 0-10 away from New Trent Gym, but they made themselves at home at Shaw’s C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.

Livingstone led by as many as 25 points and rolled to its first road victory in Monday’s CIAA contest, 85-70.

Daisa Harris, the reigning CIAA Newcomer of the Week, scored 25 points and dished out eight assists to lead the Blue Bears.

Asia Green (18), Darra Walker (14), Adel Allen (10) and Kyala Searcy (10) also scored in double figures for LC. Green and Searcy had eight rebounds each.

KlinTisha Martin and Amani Moxley scored 19 each for Shaw.

Livingstone (5-15, 2-8) won its second in a row, building off Saturday’s home win against Johnson C. Smith.

Livingstone led 19-10 after the first quarter and was in control 43-25 at halftime.

Livingstone won despite shooting only seven free throws and none in the first half. Shaw was 24-for-28 from the foul line.

The Blue Bears enjoyed one of their better shooting games —  43.9 percent from the field. They made eight 3-pointers, while Shaw (5-15, 0-10) made just two.

LC also had the advantage on the boards (42-38) and in the turnover battle (24-16).

It’s a road week for the Blue Bears, who play at St. Augustine’s on Wednesday and at Winston-Salem State on Saturday.
