SALISBURY — Twelve-year-old Triston Rabon, a North Hills Middle School student and a member of the Hurley YMCA Warriors has qualified for the first-ever Spartan Kids World in Laughlin, Nev., on Nov. 17.
Rabon earned his spot in Nevada by placing in the top three overall (age 10-13) in two different two-mile competitive Spartan race with 15 to 20 obstacles. He completed two races, in Charlotte, where he finished first, and in Asheville, where he placed third.

Rabon’s training consists of body weight exercises, pull-ups, push-ups, burpees, rope climb, core, sand bag carries, Farmer’s carry and running. Rabon’s dedication paid off as he has been training for the Spartan World since
March.

The course in Nevada is 2.8 miles with 15-20 obstacles —each
Spartan race has different obstacles so participants don’t know what exactly to train for. Overall workouts of endurance, speed, agility, strength, balance and, of course, perseverance, is the key to being successful in any Spartan race.

Triston’s parents, Shane and Aimee Rabon, are North Hills Christian School cross country coaches and Hurley Warriors volunteers.

“It’s truly amazing to have Triston representing  Salisbury at the First Spartan
Kids World,” said Ester Marsh, Health & Fitness Director at J.F. Hurley YMCA and coach of the Hurley YMCA Warriors. “We wish the Rabons safe travels
and great competition.”
