Prep Football: Wonders lose close one at Mooresville

MOORESVILLE — A.L. Brown is off to a 2-2 start, its shakiest start since 2014, after losing to Mooresville, 24-21, at Coach Joe Popp Stadium on Friday in a non-conference game.

The Wonders are 2-0 at home, but 0-2 on the road.

Jordan Medley returned to action at quarterback after missing the Carson game with a toe injury and threw two touchdown passes to Jose Vargas.

Jaron Cooper had the other TD for the Wonders on a plunge from the 1-yard line.

Cooper’s score with 4:09 left in the first quarter gave A.L. Brown its first lead  at 7-3 in what would become a see-saw game.

The Wonders would go in front two more times in the third quarter, taking 14-10 and 21-17 advantages on those TD passes by Medley,

Mooresville ‘s junior quarterback  Hunter DeBerardino was the star of the game. He threw for 235 yards and two TDs.

DeBarardino’s 51-yard touchdown toss to Quamir Connor with 6:23 left in the game proved decisive.

Connor had 114 rushing yards on 28 carries.

Ellis Benjamin made a critical fumble recovery for 4A Mooresville (3-0)  in the final minutes.

A,L. Brown hosts West Rowan (2-1) at Memorial Stadium on Friday.

Mooresville plays at South Iredell (2-2)
