Coal ash has not been classified as a hazardous substance by the Environmental Protection Agency. Fly ash is not the final product of reprocessing coal ash. Once reprocessed, coal ash becomes a silica-based material suitable for use in concrete and construction. A story on Page 1A Wednesday had incorrect information.
