From staff reports

Carson High graduate Owen White signed with Texas on Tuesday and got to try on a Rangers jersey for the first time.

White, a right-handed pitcher, was introduced at a press conference in Arlington, Texas, along with the rest of Texas’ top five draft picks. All five are high school players.

White was the 55th pick of the draft. The value of his draft slot was $1,257,500, but he signed for $1.5 million, $242,500 more.

The team’s No, 1 pick, Cole Winn, agreed to sign for $3.15 million. His slot value was $3.7 million. That savings enabled the Rangers to offer more money to White and some of the other top picks.

White, 18, will start his pro career with the Rangers entry in the Arizona rookie league. That team is located in the city of Surprise in the Phoenix area.
