MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan’s softball team edged East Rowan, 3-2, in North Piedmont Conference action on Friday.

The first-place Falcons got a complete-game pitching effort from freshman Taylor Walton. Walton allowed four hits and two walks. She struck out four. Both East runs were unearned.

Morgan Corriher drove in two runs with a first-inning single to put West on top to stay, Parker Greene knocked in the other West run.

Caroline Houpe plated  both runs for the Mustangs (10-8, 3-3). Karley Teague pitched a complete game and held West (12-4, 5-1) to three hits.

It was an important win for West. The Falcons lost at East earlier in the season.

CHINA GROVE — Carson used a monster game from Kaitlyn Honeycutt to stay in the NPC race.

Honeycutt belted a three-run homer and a two-run double to lead the Cougars to a 7-2 win against North Iredell on Friday.

Rylie Stewart had two hits and two RBIs, and Kaitlyn Stout also had two hits for the Cougars.

Katie Jewell pitched five innings for the win, while  Stewart pitched the last two innings.

North Iredell pitcher Zoe Dalton walloped a two-run homer for the Raiders to cut Carson’s lead to 3-2 in the fifth inning, but Carson (9-5, 4-2) responded with four runs.

Jewell and freshmen Kary Hales and Liza Simmerson are batting over .400 for the Cougars.

TYRO — South Rowan scored two runs in the top of the seventh and beat West Davidson, 5-3, in a Central Carolina Conference game on Friday.

Brooke Lowery had three hits and three RBIs for the Raiders (12-7, 10-4). Summer McKeon had two hits and drove in a run. Ashlyn Plott scored two runs.

Whitley Arnott pitched a complete game and struck out eight. She allowed one earned run.

Lowery is batting .510 with 17 RBIs. McKeon is batting .433 with four homers.  Arnott has struck out 150 batters.

SALISBURY — Oak Grove scored eight runs in the fourth inning and beat Salisbury, 13-1, on Friday in a CCC game.

Alayah Dumas knocked in Logan Henry with the Hornets’ run.

CONCORD — Maranda Benton drove in three runs and Emily Baker had three hits as Central Cabarrus beat A.L. Brown, 15-0, on Friday.

The Vikings got 14 runs in the third inning.

MOCKSVILLE — Davie County clobbered R.J. Reynolds 15-0 and 17-1 in a Central Piedmont Conference doubleheader on Thursday.

Bridgett Tierney went 3-for-3 in the first game, and River Simpson pitched the three-inning shutout.

Sierra Ferguson went 3-for-3 with four RBIs in the second game.

Ferguson is now Davie’s career RBI leader.

Prep baseball

LANDIS — South Rowan pounded Lexington, 15-0, for a Central Carolina Conference win on Friday.

Matthew Donahue pitched the shutout.

Garrett Harrington homered, and Isaiah Wade had a double and three RBIs for the Raiders (7-11, 6-8).

THOMASVILLE — Salisbury won a see-saw affair at East Davidson, 10-7, and split the season series with the Golden Eagles.

Bo Rusher’s three-run homer in the sixth inning was the key blow. The blast to right field put the Hornets (13-6, 10-4)  ahead, 8-7.

Will Taylor was the winning pitcher in relief of Griffin Myers, with Rusher throwing the last two innings for a save.

Vance Honeycutt had two hits and scored four runs. Myers scored three runs and drove in two. Rusher went 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Chandler Lippard had four hits and drove in three runs. Joe Steinman and Taylor added two hits each.

MISENHEIMER — North Rowan fell behind 7-0 after two innings and lost at Gray Stone, 9-3, in a Yadkin Valley Conference game played on Friday.

Brett Tucker had two hits and scored three runs for the Cavaliers (5-11, 5-8). Jordan Goodine went 2-for-3 and drove in a run. McGwire Smith and Logan Stoner had two hits each.

For the Knights, Jack Foley knocked in three runs and Clayton Broadway  drove in two.

Casey Kruger pitched five innings for the win.

Chase Shoaf took the loss. Bryan Lawson pitched well in relief for North.

CONCORD — Central Cabarrus pushed across a run in the seventh and beat A.L. Brown, 5-4, in South Piedmont Conference play on Friday,

Jake Rowden had two RBIs for the Vikings, and Stephen Kutay pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts.

KANNAPOLIS — Robinson won at Northwest Cabarrus, 2-0, in Friday’s SPC action.

Brandon Dayvault pitched six shutout innings for the Bulldogs, and Noah Love got a save.

Jack Robinson had a strong start for NWC, but the Bulldogs (12-4, 5-1) won another pitchers’ duel.

Prep track

MIDWAY — South Rowan’s track teams competed against Oak Grove, North Davidson and Thomasville on Thursday.

North Davidson swept the meet.

South’s boys placed third. Ari Moya won the 800, while Noah Julian took the 3200. South also won the 4×800.

South’s girls placed second.  Madison Lowery won the 1600 and 3200. Jahleah Butler won the discus. Janiya Downs took the long jump.

Hickory Ridge star Jiera Shears signed with University of Detroit Mercy.

CHINA GROVE — Gracie Thomason scored three  goals and Sarah Musselwhite and Lani Isley had one each as Carson beat Davie County, 5-0, on Friday.

Isley had two assists, while Thomason and Hannah Smith had one each,

The Cougars (9-2) have won nine in a row. They’ll play at South Iredell on Monday for first place in the North Piedmont Conference.

CONCORD — West Rowan lost to Concord, 2-1, in a non-conference match on Thursday,

Ryley Corriher made 13 saves. Rustyn Orbison scored the West goal with Chloe Patterson assisting.

Mid. school golf

Erwin sixth-grader Jaden Sprinkle shot a 35 from the gold tees at McCanless  on Thursday.  He had six pars, two bogeys and a birdie in a match a against Southeast.

Mid. school soccer

  The Erwin boys soccer team defeated West Rowan, 3-2.

Elijah Luna scored two  goals and Marcus Hoyt scored his first middle school goal in the comeback win.

Gabe Honeycutt had an assist. Gavin Gullett and Ethan Lutz combined for six saves in goal.

The Erwin girls soccer team defeated West Rowan, 7-0.

McKenzie Misenheimer and Hannah Isley scored three goals apiece, and Alix Vazquez added a goal.

Isley had two assists while Vazquez had one. Mary Spry had two saves and recorded the shutout in goal.

College golf

Catawba’s Kaley Barts has been named second team All-South Atlantic Conference.

The SAC women’s golf championships start on Sunday at Woodcreek.

Catawba’s men finished 10th in the SAC tournament.

Knox Run

Sacred Heart golf

Sacred Heart’s golf team defeated Immaculate Heart of Mary of High Point in an away match with a team score of 196 to 241.

For the Dolphins, Ben Childress shot 38, Nick Antosek shot 42, Kaiden Dulkoski shot 53, Hannah Lineberry 63, Jacob Shores 68 and Lauren Childress 69.

Match medalist was Ben Childress.

Sacred Heart tennis

Sacred Heart’s tennis team lost to Forsyth Country Day, 7-2, in an away match.

Sacred Heart’s Ben Childress won his singles match. Childress and Will Koontz captured a win in doubles.

College football

Zion DeBose (North Rowan), who redshirted last season at Virginia Tech, is having a good spring for the Hokies.

Catawba’s Spring Game is today at 11 a.m.

College baseball

Lincoln Memorial belted three early homers and beat Catawba, 6-3, at Newman Park on Friday,

The teams play a doubleheader today.

Still in first plcae in the South Atlantic Conference, Catawba (23-19, 16-6)  will honor seniors before the first game and will salute alumni baseball players between games.

Riley Myers (2-5) took the loss and was knocked out in the fifth.  Greg Brown, Clay Young and Cody Fitch pitched well in relief.

Cameron Morrison had three of Catawba’s nine hits. Jackson Raper had two hits and two RBIs. Luke Setzer had two hits.

Today’s action starts at 1 p.m.

Intimidators

The Kannapolis Intimidators lost at Charleston, 2-1, on Friday.

The Intimidators (5-4)  were held to four hits, two by Craig Dedelow.

John Parke pitched five shutout innings for Kannapolis.
