Hurley Park 30th anniversary celebrations blooming

Spring is really trying to show up early again this year! Flowers are bursting, and I have been able to capture some amazing photos. This year is a very important year for Hurley Park — its 30th anniversary. There are lots of activities to help with the celebration this year, and things have already started with a bang.

First, the park teamed up with Waterworks Visual Arts Center to open the “Language of Nature” exhibit on Feb. 16. There was a huge turnout for the event and the photos, artwork and paintings were amazing. There were photos for almost every season, the paintings were phenomenal and made you think you were in the park, and of course, the sculptures and mixed media inspired the imagination.

Each piece of artwork was truly inspired by Hurley Park. It was also a great opportunity to meet each of the artists that night.

That night will be a hard one to top, but I have a few more activities that I want to tell you about. The next event for Hurley Park is another one with Waterworks on Tuesday, March 13 from 7-8:30 p.m.

This will be a unique event where you will be able to speak with Hurley Park’s own landscape architect, Jane Ritchie. Come hear the history of the park and learn about the gardens and why certain plants were chosen. Ritchie has helped Hurley Park from its inception and will have wonderful details on how the park was started.

I would also like to request that you mark your calendars for the annual Spring Celebration on Sunday, April 8, from 2-4 p.m. This will be a birthday celebration to commemorate Hurley Park’s 30th Anniversary. We will have wonderful entertainment, music, and of course the perfect natural outdoor setting.
