LANDIS — The Landis Board of Aldermen started 2018 with a voluntary annexation of a nearly 2-acre parcel Monday night.

The parcel is at the northeast intersection of Flat Rock Road and Mount Moriah Church Road. Town Manager Reed Linn said the front part of the lot was already within town limits.

Linn said the land has been sold to New Life Developers and that the company will likely build a subdivision there.

Other items on the board’s agenda included:

• The board and people attending the meeting said prayers for Mayor Mike Mahaley, who could not attend the meeting because of illness.

• The board voted to adopt a proclamation officially recognizing February as Black History Month and Jan. 15 as Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

• The board set a public hearing for its next meeting, Feb. 5, to give residents a chance to say whether they would support an ordinance to allow the sale of alcohol before noon on Sundays.

The next Landis Board of Alderman meeting will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 5 at Town Hall, 312 S. Main St.
