Workshop will offer guidance on fall planting

In the Rowan County area, it turns out that fall is an ideal time to plant trees, shrubs, and flowers … some trees, shrubs, and flowers, but which ones?!

A workshop to answer that question, as well as provide additional information and guidance, is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to noon. Godley’s Garden Center on Statesville Boulevard is hosting the event, providing lunch afterwards and offering discounts to participants. Though the workshop is free, space is limited; those interested are invited to register by contacting the Rowan County Center at 704-216-8970.

The three workshop leaders are experts in specific fields: Danelle Cutting, horticulture and local food agent at the NC Cooperative Extension, will lead a discussion on pollinators; Julie Apone of Carolina Lily will talk about ornamentals; Johnny Safrit with the Salisbury Tree Board will direct participants on how to plant the correct tree in the right place.

Bill Godley, owner of Godley’s Garden Center, has generously agreed to offer a 30 percent discount on selected items to workshop participants through the weekend (Oct. 19-22).

The deadline to register is Monday, Oct. 16. For more information, contact Danelle Cutting at danelle_cutting@ncsu.edu or Julie Apone at carolinalily@att.net.
