Salisbury won against Ledford, 3-1, in CCC action on Wednesday. It was only the second loss for Ledford, which has the CCC’s leading scorer.

Salisbury overcame a one-goal deficit three minutes into the match.

After some rearranging and an overhaul in formations, the Hornets gathered momentum until Jack Fisher found Angel Quintero cutting across the box. Quintero took a single touch then blasted a shot to level the match at 1-all.

‘We lost Hugo Trujillo and Melvin Bonilla to injury, but new guys stepped up to give us the opportunity to compete,” SHS coach Matt Parrish said. “That moment came with just under 10 minutes left in the match. Tony Figueroa (himself under the weather) took a corner kick that a streaking Luke Holland headed across the end line for a 2-1 lead.”

With just over four minutes left, Tony Figueroa stepped over a free kick from 25 yards out. His strike beat the wall and was parried by the keeper — right onto the foot of Holland who again found the back of the net.

“Holland was terrific, Jack Fisher was simply outstanding, and keeper Josh Faulkner stood on his head,” Parrish said.  “It was this team’s first signature win. Ledford is easily the fastest  team we have seen and they control the ball better than those that we have faced in conference.  We have been close in all of our matches this year and just needed that break or confidence boost to get us over the hump. I hope that tonight was it.”
