From staff reports

Salisbury soccer got its first victory since beating East Rowan on Aug. 21.

The Hornets won in brutal conditions in a game played on Monday, beating new school Oak Grove, 6-0 at Ludwig Stadium for a Central Carolina Conference victory.

“It was the most miserable I’ve been on the sidelines since the Shelby game in the 2011 state semifinals,” Salisbury coach Matt Parrish said. “The wind was howling, the field was slippery, and the players were tentative throughout the majority of the evening.”

Melvin Bonilla got the Hornets on the board  on an assist by Juan Salazar.

Dennis Anaya, the team’s only freshman, scored his first career goal on an assist from Angel Quintero for a 2-0 lead the break.

Salazar, a sophomore in his first year at SHS, scored his own first career goal to open the second half, converting on a ricochet following a shot from Tony Figueroa.

Bryan Cortez Garcia scored next on a brilliant, full field cross from another newcomer, Hugo Trujillo and beat the keeper near post to push the lead to 4-0.

The final two goals were  scored by Juan Silva on assists by David Holden.
