Area Sports Briefs: Salisbury tennis wins

Salisbury’s girls tennis team cruised to a 9-0 Central Carolina Conference win against Oak Grove on Monday.

Maria Capito, Skye Mowery, Emma Nianouris, Lilly Rusher, Meredith Burton and Bethanie Stauffer won singles matches for the Hornets.

Winning doubles teams were Capito/Julia Honeycutt, Rusher/Nianouris  and Stauffer/Burton.

Salisbury, Ledford and  North Davidson are still undefeated in the league.

Prep boys soccer

Alex Kalogeromitros scored all four goals for East Rowan in Monday’s 5-4 loss to Davie County.

Will Peeler had three asists, and Landon Ketchie had one for East.

South Rowan fell to East Davidson, 6-5, in a high-scoring CCC contest on Monday.

Eber Tapia scored twice for the Raiders, while Lupe Bautista, Dalton Baxter and German Delgado added a goal each.

Logan Carter and Miguel Bernal had assists.

Salisbury lost to Thomasville, 2-1, on Monday at Ludwig Stadium.

Tony Figueroa was fouled in the box 15 minutes into the first half. Melvin Bonilla converted the penalty kick to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead, but  Thomasville rallied with two goals early in the second half.

Salisbury battered the offensive half of the field for the last 20 minutes but could not find the back of the net.

Salisbury (1-2-1, 0-1 CCC) is at West Davidson at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Prep cross country

A.L. Brown’s Brandon Hernandez ran 16:13.26 for sixth place in the invitational division of Saturday’s Providence Invitational at McAlpine.

Prep volleyball

West Rowan improved to 5-0 on Saturday with a sweep of Mount Tabor and a rally against West Forsyth. The Falcons came back against the Titans, 16-25, 27-25, 26-24 and 25-13.

Ava Link had 50 assists in the West Forsyth match. Tori Hester had 15 kills and 21 digs. Braelyn Faust had 11 kills and seven blocks.

Maddison Myers had eight kills,while Kaylin Dowling had seven.

East Rowan lost to Robinson on Monday, 25-14, 25-13, 20-25 and 25-17.

Baleigh Hill had 19 digs for the Mustangs.

Leah Wyrick had 11 kills and nine assists. Olivia Wright had eight kills and four blocks.

East won the jayvee matchup, 2-1, after dropping the first set.

Emma Collins had six kills. Audrey Cox and Zoe Larson had five each.

College soccer

Carson-Newman’s women and Wingate’s men  were voted the preseason favorites in SAC soccer.
