Area Sports Briefs: Middle school baseball tournament

In the local middle school baseball tournament, Erwin topped Knox, 8-2, Southeast beat North Rowan, 19-0, West Rowan ousted Corriher-Lipe, 16-5, and Mooresville knocked off China Grove, 9-5.
Today’s semifinals at Corriher-Lipe will have top-seeded Erwin against fifth-seeded Mooresville at 4 p.m. Second-seeded Southeast plays No. 3 seed West Rowan at 7 p.m.
The championship game at Corriher-Lipe is at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
Legion baseball
Kannapolis Legion has a game scheduled at Northwest Cabarrus High against High Point on Thursday, May 18.
All middle school and younger children will be admitted free.
Rowan County is scheduled to play at Kannapolis on May 26.
Hurley YMCA
The Hurley YMCA Warriors had an outstanding meet in Gastonia this past Saturday.

CSA U14 Soccer
The CSA U14 soccer team, the Blue Lightning (7-4-1), won against a regional opponent, 8-3.
Scoring for the Lightning were Zack Prater with three goals; Ben Childress with three goals, and Michael Hollar and Colin Donaldson with a goal each.
The team finished in the top third of their division and will be participating in the King of the Mountain tournament in Boone this weekend.
CSA Rowan Tryouts
Charlotte Soccer Academy (CSA) will be hosting tryouts at Sacred Heart Catholic School soccer field on Tuesday and Thursday, May 23-25, from 6-7:15.
Boys teams available are for players born in 2005, 2004 and 2003.
