SALISBURY — The Rowan County Veteran Council is planning Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day celebrations this month.
The Armed Forces Day celebration will beat 10 a.m. May 20 at the Patriots Flag Concourse and Memorial at the Salisbury Rotary Honor Concourse, North Jackson and West Miller streets.
Opening remarks will be followed by a flag-changing ceremony involving the Veteran Council and Military Officers Association of America.
The ceremony will include prayers, state and local proclamations, a keynote speech and patriotic music. Refreshments will be served.
The Memorial Day celebration will be at 10 a.m. May 29 at the Salisbury VA Medical Center National Cemetery, 1601 Brenner Ave. If it rains, the ceremony will move to Building 6 at the medical center.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own chairs to both celebrations.
Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, local church groups and ROTC units will put flags on veterans’ graves at the historic Salisbury National Cemetery and the VA annex in preparation for the celebrations.
