The state Department of Transportation will close the 2200-2900 blocks of North Main Street between Landis and Kannapolis near Blackwelder Street starting today because of work on the rail project in Rowan County.

North Main Street is scheduled to close temporarily between 29th and 22nd streets for three days starting today.

The times for the closures are:

• Today, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

• Saturday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

• Sunday, 1-7 p.m.

The detour route will be West Fifth Street and continue onto West A Street, then turn left onto Loop Road North and left onto North Main Street.

Norfolk Southern will make railroad track improvements in Kannapolis, causing temporary road closings.

The railroad crossing on 18th and 22nd streets in Kannapolis will close between Linda Avenue and Main Street at 6:30 a.m. Monday and reopen at 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Drivers can find their way around the road closings by using either Jackson Park Road in Kannapolis or Ryder Avenue in Landis.
