Catawba women topple Coker

SALISBURY — It wasn’t the best effort the Catawba women’s basketball team has had, but it was enough.
Catawba stayed unbeaten at home in South Atlantic Conference play by beating Coker, 59-46, on Wednesday at Goodman Gym.
Catawba got 12 points and eight rebounds each from Bri Johnson and Terri Rogers. Marshauna Butler had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Catawba (13-5, 10-3 SAC) won despite shooting 31 percent for the game.
The Indians led at halftime, 30-24, and moved in front by 17 points on a 3-pointer by Butler in the third quarter.
Catawba had twice as many offensive rebounds and had a 17-12 edge in the turnover battle.
Coker (3-15, 2-11 SAC) struggled to find the mark as well, making only 35 percent from the field. Iresha Cooper had a double-double for the Cobras with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sydney Shull and Lindsey Adams added eight points each.
Catawba travels to Mars Hill on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip with the Lions. Catawba claimed a 77-55 win in the first matchup of the season.
