Salisbury-Rowan AARP chapter installs new officers

Salisbury-Rowan AARP Chapter 4314 installed officers for 2017 at the chapter’s annual meeting Jan. 5. They are: Sylvia Fosha, president; Bill Gill, vice president, Marianne Orr, secretary; and Eileen Hanson-Kelly, treasurer.
These members will serve on the chapter’s board and as committee chairs: Malinda Foster, calling committee, friendship and public relations; Manie Richardson, community service; Mona Lisa Blackwell, health and wellness; Jerry Shelby, legislative action and chapter historian; Rosetta Jackson, social and recreation; and Barbra Sifford, membership.
The chapter offered appreciation to the outgoing officers for 2016: Charles Underwood, vice president, and Manie Richardson, treasurer.
Rowan County residents age 50 and older may join the local chapter. Members do not have to be retired. The annual dues for the chapter are $4.
Chapter meetings are at 1 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at Rufty-Holmes Senior Center, 1120 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. Four times a year (March, June, September and December), the chapter has a covered-dish meal before the meeting at 12:30 p.m.
The next meeting is at 1 p.m. Feb. 2. The program will be “What Is AARP: Who are we, What we do and Whey We Are Vital to Seniors?” with Leo Scarpati, associate state director of AARP-NC Charlotte. Refreshments will follow the meeting.
