St. Luke Missionary Baptist

St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church on Hawkinstown Road is hosting a reception this evening from 6-9 p.m. in honor of their pastor’s retirement.

The Rev. Arthur Heggins and his wife First Lady Vanessa Moser Heggins came to St. Luke in 1992 from New waves of Joy Baptist Church in Charlotte. Under his leadership the church grew and changed. After the reception, the church will participate in watch night services at Shady Grove Baptist Church at 10 p.m. where Rev. Heggins will conduct the service.

There will be no service at St. Luke on Sunday, Jan. 1.

Joint Watch Night Service

CLEVELAND — A joint Watch Night Service with Third Creek, Liberty, South Iredell, Moore’s Chapel, Cleveland and Cedar Grove AME Zion Churches will be held at Cedar Grove AME Zion Church, Cleveland beginning at 10 p.m. this evening.

The Rev. Eddie Fortson, pastor of Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, Cleveland will be the speaker. The Rev. Dr. Bertha E. Pittman is host pastor.

Fairview Heights

Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist Church, 704 Old Concord Road, will hold its annual New Year’s Eve service this evening at 10 p.m. The Rev. Calvin Miller, presiding Elder of the Winston-Salem district of the AME Zion Churches, will preach.

Sunday morning services will resume at 11 a.m. The Rev. Clarence E. Marlin is host pastor.

Tower of Power United Holy Church

Tower of Power United Holy Church, 601 N. Cemetery St., will have a New Year’s Eve Service this evening at 10 p.m. The Rev. D. M. Mason is host pastor.

Greater Glory Triumphant Center

Greater Glory Triumphant Center will hold its New Year’s Celebration at 413 N. Church St., starting at 10 p.m. this evening.

The guest speaker is Pastor Renwick Fisher of New Freedom Holiness Church.

Love Christian Center

EAST SPENCER — Love Christian Center, 102 N. Long St., will have New Year’s Eve Service this evening beginning at 10 p.m. with special music, praise dancing and poetry. The speakers will be Ms. Don Dre’s Lewis and Bishop Johnnie Draft III.

Ms. Lewis is a straight-A student and is very active in the youth department at Love Christian Center.

Bishop Draft has been preaching for 31 years and was consecrated as Bishop in 2013 by the late Apostle Johnnie Draft Sr. and the late Apostle John H. Heath. Bishop Draft is a third generation preacher.

Love Christian Center will also have its regular scheduled services on Sunday, Jan. 1 with Sunday school at 9 a.m. and morning service at 10 am.

Shady Grove Baptist

EAST SPENCER — Shady Grove Baptist Church, 600 S. Long St., will hold its Watch Night Service this evening at 10 p.m.

The Rev. Arthur Higgins will deliver the message. We will be joined by Ardis Chapel, More praise More power.

Breakfast will be served following service. There will be no Sunday morning service.

The Rev. Timothy Bridges is host pastor.

Mount Zion Baptist 

Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1920 Shirley Ave., will commemorate the old year and celebrate the New Year with its annual Watch Night Service this evening at 10:30 p.m.

The service will be led by the praise team, Creative Expressions Ministry, associate ministers, and Dr. Nilous M. Avery II, pastor. The celebration will end with the traditional “call of the watch person” to bring in the New Year.

Lilly’s Chapel Church Of God

The annual Watch Night Service will be held at Lilly’s Chapel Church Of God, 618 West Thomas St., this evening at 10:30 p.m. Guest speaker is the Rev. Gena Long, pastor of Potter’s House Outreach Ministries.

First Calvary Baptist

First Calvary Baptist Church, 400 South Long St., will hold a community watch night service at 11 p.m. this evening. The service is open to the public and will be led by the pastor, the Rev. Leamon E. Brown.

Immanuel Lutheran holds New Year’s Day service

ROCKWELL — Immanuel Lutheran will hold its regular 11  a.m. worship service on New Year’s Day in reflection of the past year and in anticipation of the new one. The Rev. Bruce Sheeks, pastor, will speak and Josh Trexler will provide special music. Sunday School will be on regular schedule.

The Pilgrimaires

WOODLEAF — The Pilgrimaires of Salisbury will be having their 2017 Annual Gospel Program on Sunday, Jan. 1 at Freedom United Church of God, 1555 Hart Road, at 4 p.m. On program will be The Echoes for Christ of Salisbury, The Messengers for Christ of Cleveland, and The Voice of Morningstar of Charlotte. Food will be sold.

Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist

Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist Church, 704 Old Concord Road, is hosting its 16th pastoral anniversary for Pastor Clarence E. Marlin and First Lady Evangelist Cathye Marlin beginning Wednesday, Jan. 4 and running through Friday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. nightly. Guest speakers are:

Wednesday, The Rev. Ervin Hannah of Erwin Temple AME Zion Church in Cooleemee;

Thursday, the Rev. John Leazer of Macedonia Baptist Church in Concord;

Friday, the Rev. Alonzo Williams of Rhema Praise Worship Center in Salisbury.

On Sunday, Jan. 8 the guest preacher is Michael Mitchell, associate minster of Southern City AME Zion Church in East Spencer, for the 11 a.m. service. Dinner will follow in the fellowship hall. The 3 p.m. service will conclude the celebrations with Elder Timothy Lyhons of St. John Primitive Baptist Church in Charlotte as the guest preacher.

In My Father’s House

In My Father’s House, led by the Rev. Roosevelt Jenkins, meets the first two Thursdays of each month, from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

The next services are Jan. 5 and Jan. 12. Meetings for 2017 are scheduled to meet in the Hurley Room at Rowan Public Library.

Rev. Jenkins is continuing in the study of “The Love Dare.”

Oak Grove Mass Choir invitation

CHINA GROVE — The Oak Grove Mass Choir is hosting its 7th choir anniversary on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 3 p.m. All choirs, quartets and praise dancers are invited to join in the celebration.

The church is located at 1205 S. Main St. in China Grove and the host pastor is the Rev. Dr. Keith Curry.
