Tailback Demarcus Alexander rushed 19 times for 281 yards and five touchdowns and led Central Cabarrus (3-4, 2-5 SPC) to a 53-15 win against South Rowan in South Piedmont Conference action on Friday.
“On paper, we had an answer for their running game,” South coach Daniel Yow said. “But, physically, on the field, we didn’t.”
South (1-7, 1-5 SPC) was down 18-0 after the first quarter and trailed 33-7 at halftime.
Austin Chrismon threw a second-quarter TD pass to Koby Campbell, and Campbell kicked the PAT.
Chrismon passed to Daewone Harris for a fourth-quarter touchdown, and South got a two-point conversion on Brett Amburn’s pass to Harris.
Sayquan Anthony had a productive rushing night for the Raiders and got close to 100 yards.
Hough 21, A.L. Brown 7
Hough beat A.L. Brown, in Cornelius on Friday.
Hough’s fourth straight win over the Wonders and Vance’s victory over Mallard Creek left the top four MECKA teams with one loss each.
Jarrett Nagy and Tyus Fields had scoring runs for the Huskies (5-3, 2-1), while Jackson Gibbs threw a touchdown pass.
A.L. Brown (6-2, 2-1) scored late in the first half for a 7-all tie on gadget play. Shymere Scott passed 15 yards to QB Zac Williamson.
Fields had the 55-yard run early in the third quarter that put the Huskies ahead, and Gibbs had a TD pass to Cameron Evans late in the third quarter.
Williamson completed six passes for 131 yards, but the Wonders couldn’t move on the ground and had only eight first downs.
The Wonders host Mllard Creek next week.

Catawba tennis
The Catawba men’s and women’s tennis teams picked up wins on Thursday against Lees-McRae in Banner Elk.
The Catawba women moved to 4-0 with a 9-0 victory. Catawba’s men (2-2) won, 7-2, against the Bobcats.

Catawba volleyball
Catawba won, 3-1, against Brevard on Friday.
Alex Hopper had 15 kills, while McKenzie Garrison and Audrey Hoffman each tallied 11 kills for the Indians.
Garrison added 20 digs and Hoffman produced five blocks. Meredith Furr had 20 digs. Rachel Stanford had 44 assists.
Savannah Cox (NW Cabarrus) had 16 kills and three blocks for Brevard. Hannah Elmore (Carson) had four kills and four digs.
