Area Sports Briefs: South wins in soccer

Lupe Bautista, Walker Joyce, Harrison Ward and Eber Tapia scored goals for South Rowan soccer in a 4-1 win against Mount Pleasant on Thursday.
Omar Camacho, John Fulton and Miguel Bernal had assists.
South is 1-0-1.

The Cougars got goals from Khalid Myers and Leswin Mendez.

Prep volleyball
South Rowan rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Mount Pleasant, 3-2, on Thursday.
South (3-0) won 23-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-20 and 15-9.

Jayvee football
Davie County’s jayvees fell to Page, 26-18, on Thursday.

Intimidators
GREENVILLE, S.C. — Roniel Raudes allowed just four hits over seven innings, leading the Greenville Drive over the Kannapolis Intimidators in a 2-0 win on Thursday.
Victor Diaz struck Antonio Rodriguez out with a runner on first to end the game for his ninth save of the season.
Raudes (11-5) picked up the win after he struck out four and walked one.
Both runs for Greenville came in the sixth inning when Roldani Baldwin hit an RBI double and then scored on a ground out by Nick Lovullo.
Dylan Barrow (3-2) went three innings, allowing two runs and three hits in the South Atlantic League game. He also struck out two and walked one.
The Intimidators were held scoreless for the fifth time this season, while the Drive’s staff recorded their eighth shutout of the year.

Bulls
DURHAM — Audry Perez hit a three-run home run in the third inning, leading the Norfolk Tides to an 8-5 win over the Durham Bulls on Thursday.
Durham had runners on first and third in the bottom of the ninth, but Taylor Motter hit into a forceout to end the game.
The home run by Perez scored Trey Mancini and Christian Walker to give the Tides a 6-2 lead.
The Tides later tacked on two runs in the fourth when Ozzie Martinez hit an RBI single and Mancini hit a sacrifice fly to secure the victory.
Norfolk right-hander Joe Gunkel (8-9) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing two runs on six hits over six innings. Opposing starter Justin Marks (6-11) took the loss in the International League game.

Rowan Little League fall baseball and softball registrations are at Godley’s Garden Center on Statesville Boulevard through Saturday, Sept. 3.
Parents can also register online anytime at http://www.rowanlittleleague.com. Baseball is $40 for all leagues. Leagues offered are T-Ball (ages 3-6), Coach Pitch (ages 7-8), B League (ages 9-10) and A League (ages 11-12).
Girls softball is $40 for all leagues. Leagues offered are for T-Ball (ages 3-6), Coach Pitch (ages 6-8), 10U (ages 9-10) and 12U (ages 11-12).
