Late-night accident closes Mooresville Road

According to scanner traffic, around midnight on Sunday, emergency crews responded to a call for a traffic accident near the intersection of Mooresville Road and Forest Drive where a vehicle reportedly hit a building. Crews on scene reported a ruptured natural gas line, broken power pole with low-hanging wires and a downed transformer. Mooresville Road was shut down, and as a precaution, residents were asked to “shelter in their homes” in case of an explosion.

At 12:10 a.m., a second page was requested for additional manpower and equipment. Four patients were being taken to the hospital from the scene.

At 1:35 a.m., the gas leak was secured. Due to damages, crews requested Fibrant, Time-Warner and AT&T respond to repair lines and Salisbury-Rowan Utilities was requested to fix a water leak. DOT was contacted for an extended closure of Mooresville Road so Duke Energy could repair the pole. The scene was under control at 1:55 a.m.
