Owen White pitched a complete game for Carson’s baseball team in a 6-4 SPC win at Hickory Ridge on Wednesday.
White (4-1) struck out eight. He allowed three hits and one earned run.
Michael Morrison had the key hit for Carson (8-2, 7-1) in the sixth inning to break a 3-all tie.
Morrison had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in two runs.
Ben Shoaf and Brycen Holshouser had two hits each. Ryan Bearden hit a home run.
Carson moved a half-game ahead of West Rowan for first in the SPC race. The Falcons play at Cox Mill tonight.

In North Rowan’s 16-1, three-inning CCC win against Lexington on Tuesday, Noah Gonzalez was the winning pitcher and struck out four.
Holden Lanier and Gonzalez had two hits each. Driving in two runs were Robbie Monroe, McGuire Smith and Gonzalez.

The Cavaliers lost 6-1 at Statesville on Wednesday to fall to 6-3.
Brandon White pitched well, and it was a 1-all game until the Greyhounds scored five runs in the sixth.

North Rowan pitcher Lee Sells plans to sign with Greensboro College.

East Rowan got pounded 13-1 at North Davidson on Wednesday in a non-conference game.
“They’re everything they’re advertised to be,” East coach Brian Hightower said. “That’s a great team. They swing it as well as any high school team I’ve seen.”
E.P. Reese hit a three-run homer for the Black Knights (10-0). Joe Butts had a two-run triple.
East (7-3) got three hits. Ike Freeman and Jordan Wise doubled, and Tanner File had a run-scoring single.
Hayden Setzer took the loss on the mound.
“He made some good pitches,” Hightower said. “It’s not like he threw bad at all.”

East Rowan’s Easter tournament starts Friday.
The Mustangs play West Iredell at 1 p.m., the Greater Cabarrus Stallions play Central Cabarrus at 4 p.m., and West Rowan plays North Rowan at 7 p.m.

Prep softball
A.L. Brown won 14-6 against Mallard Creek in MECKA softball on Tuesday and rolled 11-1 against Independence in a non-conference game on Wednesday.
Kaitlin Moore had four hits and four RBIs on Wednesday. Kaylee Cook pitched a complete game.
A.L. Brown junior outfielder Allie Baker has committed to Catawba.

Davie County won 11-0 against Mount Tabor in a CPC game on Wednesday.
Olivia Boger pitched a no-hitter and struck out nine.
Bridgett Tierney went 3-for-3, and Sierra Ferguson went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Prep golf
A.L. Brown shot 200 and was fourth in the MECKA golf match at Northstone on Tuesday.
Isaac Miles shot 44 to lead the Wonders. Hough won the match.

Prep tennis
Salisbury won 9-0 against West Davidson in CCC tennis on Wednesday to stay undefeated.
Spencer Storey, Hunter Carlton, David Derrick, Matt Sukkasem, Roarke Burton and William McGee won singles matches for the Hornets (9-0, 4-0).
Storey/Derrick, Carlton/Sukkasem and Burton/Adam Drye were doubles winners.

East Rowan (6-0, 3-0) stayed undefeated with a 9-0 SPC win against Concord on Wednesday.
Ike Emerson, Chance Brown, Robert Gray, Addison Fry, Nikolas Pillsbury and Zakk Perdue were singles winners.
Brown/Emerson, Gray/Perdue and Fry/Pillsbury won in doubles.

Middle school golf
Salisbury Academy shot 170 and finished first in a middle school golf match at Warrior.
The Jaguars (6-0) were followed by Community school of Davidson (172), Sacred Heart (192), Summit (193) and Hickory Christian (222).
Pacing the Jaguars was medalist Charlie Barr (39). He was followed by Will Fowler (42), Mitch Jeter (43), Hank Robins (46), Walker Hartpence (48) and Marshall Overcash (49).
Next is a match at Catawba Country Club on April 7.

Middle school soccer
Erwin’s girls won 5-0 against North Rowan.
Kamden Johnson scored three goals. Lani Isley and Shelby Brady scored a goal each.
Anna Hester had the shutout in goal.

Middle school tennis
West Rowan’s boys beat Erwin 7-2.
Singles winners were Carter Jenkins, Cyress Brown, Ben Baker and Parkston Myers.
Doubles winners were: Kevin Sullivan/Jenkins, Brown/Gavin Coffield and Baker/Myers.

College football
Romar Morris (Salisbury) ran a 4.35 40-yard dash on Tuesday at UNC’s Pro Day for NFL scouts.
Morris trained with Olympic gold medalist Michael Johnson in Texas for two months in preparation for his Pro Day.
Morris rushed 213 times for 1,024 yards in four seasons for the Tar Heels and had 54 receptions for 499 yards. Morris (5-10, 190) scored 14 touchdowns, 12 rushing and two on receptions.
Morris’ role diminished last fall and he had only 10 carries for 64 yards as a senior.
At Salisbury, Morris was the 2011 NCHSAA Male Athlete of the Year
He was MVP of the 2010 2AA football state championship game, won state track titles at 55, 100 and 200 meters and also played basketball for the Hornets.

College softball
Catawba swept Newberry on the road, winning 7-1 and 9-5 for two SAC victories on Tuesday.
Catawba (20-9, 4-0 SAC)
Gina Gerone and Taylor Adams homered Holli Chandler and Kristen Stinnard had triples.
Carley Tysinger struck out nine for the win.
In the second game, Caroline Turner got the win and Tysinger pitched three innings for a save. She struck out seven.
Delane Smith drove in four runs. Stinnard had three hits.

College lacrosse
Catawba’s men downed visiting Alabama-Huntsville 11-3 in men’s lacrosse action.
Cole Fanzo led the Indians with four goals.

College tennis
Catawba’s teams beat Brevard on Tuesday.
Catawba’s men won 7-2. The women won 9-0.

NCHSAA
Alexander Central softball player Taylor Payne and Rosman baseball’s Tyler Petit were the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award winners.
