North Rowan’s girls overcame a shaky first quarter and rolled 67-30 at winless West Davidson on Friday to stay unbeaten in the Central Carolina Conference.
“We had a lot of fouls in the first quarter, and it was a little scary,” North coach Brian Lytton said. “But then we had a strong second quarter. It was smooth sailing after that.”
Special Washington (19 points), Aiyah Farmer (15), Brianna White (11) and Aundrea Godfrey (10) were in double figures for the Cavaliers.
Mikayla Sink and Mary Nebrich scored nine each for the Green Dragons.
North (10-4, 2-0) kept pace with East Davidson at the top of the CCC standings.

North boys rally
North Rowan’s boys had to rally for a 59-57 win at West Davidson.
Three North starters, including leading scorer Jalen Sanders, sat out the first quarter, for disciplinary reasons.
North fell behind by as many as 10 points, but rallied late in the third quarter and early in the fourth with defensive plays by Sanders and Josh Handy ad a key 3-pointer by Henderson Lentz.
Sanders finished with 17 points for the Cavaliers (12-2, 2-0) , while Joe Scott had 16,
Scott Hughes led the Green Dragons with 20 points.
North is tied for first in the CCC with Salisbury and Thomasville.

Carson girls
Carson’s girls lost at Cox Mill, 34-28, on Friday in SPC play.
McKenzie Gadson scored 14 for the Cougars.
Koby Haney had 13 for the Chargers.
Carson played without leading scorer Olivia Gabriel, who is out with a bruised back.
“We had a hard time scoring, and with Olivia out we had some people in different positions and they were out of their comfort zone a little bit,” Carson coach Brooke Misenheimer said.
Cox Mill led 9-8 at halftime in a real struggle.
“Our defense was good enough to give us a chance,” Misenheimer said. “But we missed free throws and missed putbacks. We’ve got a lot of things to fix.”

Avery Metcalf scored 22 points to lead Hickory Ridge to a 66-49 win against West Rowan’s boys on Friday in Harrisburg.
Javon Smith added 14 points for the Ragin’ Bulls.

Jayvee girls
Carson’s jayvee girls (12-0) stayed undefeated by edging Cox Mill 27-25 on Friday.
Katie Jewell scored seven for the Cougars. Tayler Harwood and Nancy Gamewell scored six each.
Defensive Standouts were Sarah Christie, Sarah Musselwhite and Sam Sebastian.
Amiyah Milton had 10 for the Chargers.

Salisbury Academy
Salisbury Academy’s varrsity boys defeated Sacred Heart 51-19.
The Jaguars were led in scoring by Marshall Overcash with 16 points. Jude Lockhart scored nine, Mitch Jeter had eight, and Charlie Barr scored seven.
Nick Antosek had five points for the Dolphins.

Sacred Heart hoops
Sacred Heart’s girls won 34-14 against Salisbury Academy.
Rachel McCullough scored 15 for the Dolphins. Sutton Webb had nine points, and Hannah Smith scored eight.
Caroline Cardelle and Alyssa Lopez led the defense.
Maggie Dees scored five points for the Jaguars.

Prep football

West Rowan offensive lineman K.J. Wilson received an offer from South Carolina State on Friday.

Former Livingstone player Charlie Gray has accepted the head football coaching job at Northwest Cabarrus.
Gray coached Hopewell last season.
He’s been an assistant coach at Salisbury and Vance.
Gray replaces Rich Williams, who was Northwest’s coach for eight seasons.
