Charlotte’s Drew Staley got his second-straight overall win in Rowan County a week after topping the Share the Care 5K. On Saturday, Staley took a close win over Anthony Nero of Spencer by pulling away on the track as both runners approached the finish. Staley’s time of 17 minutes and 39 seconds edged Nero who finished in 17:48. Chance Brown returned to local races with a strong third place finish of 18:29.

For the women, Melissa Orr continued her stellar racing with another easy win. She clocked 21 minutes and 55 seconds on the challenging course. Stacey Wood took second in 24:40, just ahead of third place Sonya Roberson in 24:46.

Madalyn Simpson won the fun run with a time of 4 minutes and 40 seconds.

All proceeds for the event will go to Relay for Life and also to Robert Gilmore and Carl Medlin, both of whom are battling cancer.
